About Importing.com.au

Importing.com.au exists to make one of the world's strictest import regimes understandable.

Importing into Australia means dealing with at least nine regulators — the Australian Border Force, the Department of Agriculture, the ATO, the ACCC, FSANZ, the TGA and more — each with its own rules, databases and jargon. The official sources are authoritative but scattered. We bring them together: every guide on this site is compiled from current Australian Government sources and linked back to the regulator so you can verify each rule yourself.

What we cover

  • The end-to-end importing process, from first-time shoppers to commercial importers
  • Customs duty, the 10% GST on imports, and concessions such as the GST deferral scheme
  • Import declarations (SAC and full declarations via the ICS)
  • Biosecurity and the BICON database, including BMSB seasonal measures
  • Prohibited and restricted goods and permit requirements
  • Product compliance and labelling for goods sold in Australia
  • Freight, Incoterms, customs brokers and landed-cost modelling

Free tools

Alongside the guides we maintain a landed cost & duty calculator, an import checklist generator, a prohibited goods lookup and a searchable glossary of import terms.
